I never thought I’d actually be typing an introductory post to a blog, even though I’ve kept an often spazzy journal online for years (friends only, chaps!) I’ve always had a negative attitude toward bloggers, music bloggers in particular, thinking of them as hipper-than-thou elites with little actual passion for their content, more interested in page views than interesting stories. Sure, I check quite a few blogs daily, but – with the exception of Best Week Ever – they’re usually humorless places filled with middle aged vinyl collectors lamenting about how ‘the kids’ just don’t get it nowadays.
So, upon being given this assignment, I knew what I wanted to do right away: create a music blog that wasn’t pretentious/entirely up its own ass, featuring both the hot news stories of the day AND a bit of commentary thrown in for good measure. Although the editrix of the always-informative Idolator is a woman, as is Ms. Modern Age (one of my favorite bloggers) , it seems that women are underrepresented in the music blogosphere (what a terrible word!) and I wanted to change that. I wanted to represent the young, female perspective on music, without turning it into a lifeless reviews blog or an issue of Tiger Beat. Hopefully my intended audience – young women with a passion for music, musicians, and the entire industry – will be able to enjoy my views and posts as much as I enjoy writing them. I hope even some of the fellas will even find something amusing on here!
In terms of content and tone, I seek to present breaking music news with a humorous slant, perhaps with some original content (lists, MP3s, features) thrown in the mix. As for the actual music covered, it’ll be a hodgepodge: I tend to stick toward the guitar rock side of things with a twinge of Anglophilia, so that’s what’ll feature most prominently, although the occasional pop/hip-hop/whatever story will undoubtedly sneak in if it’s entertaining enough. However, I won’t give any coverage to those gossip blog behemoths that barely even make ‘music’ anymore (Britney, et al) or reality TV stars trying to make it in music. It’s just not my thing, and I may even think less of you if that’s what you enjoy (just kidding!)
With luck, I’ll be able to provide a wealth of content – both ‘borrowed’ from elsewhere on the web and completely original stuff – with a minimal amount of ax-grinding, but I make no promises. I hope you’ll be along for the ride!
