Though it’s much too early to pick a “song of the summer” (as all college students know, summer is still quite some way away), chances are the only thing that will soundtrack the warmer months of the year for me is the new Mystery Jets album, 21. The band’s first album, the neo-prog/psychedelic freakout of Making Dens (or Zootime, for those who bought the domestic release) has been replaced with an overall more accessible sound. “Two Doors Down”, the album’s high point, sounds like it could have been on the soundtrack to a John Hughes movie or even a Phil Collins song (though this has dubious connotations), as the band seem to be channeling a much more ’80s sound with this record.

However, there’s no video available for this song yet and I don’t want to upload songs illegally and get an angry letter from the RIAA, so enjoy instead another highlight, “Young Love”, the band’s first proper UK hit, featuring folk songstress Laura Marling on guest vocals.

For more of the incredibly talented (and young; she’s only 18 years old) Laura Marling, click below the cut:

Her debut album, Alas, I Cannot Swim, is currently available only on import but well worth seeking out.

And I’m so glad that “Young Love” has become such a hit. Very well-deserved.
