My name’s Alissa Harris and I’m currently a junior at Drexel University, working toward a degree in Global Journalism, with a minor in Psychology. This term I’m enrolled in COM 300, an online journalism course, and this spurred the creation of my blog, oh noes!
I just turned 21 and I’m set to graduate in a few terms, but I don’t feel quite ‘adult’ yet, so I don’t think people should be reading my opinions on important news matters, hence why I chose to blog about music. Music is one of my true loves, but due to the fact that I can’t play any instrument proficiently (barring the ukulele, something I took up during my ten-week stay in London!) I choose to spend time and money on those who can. I have a history in music journalism: I worked the entertainment beat on my high school newspaper (where I was also the editor), I’ve written music features for The Triangle (Drexel’s student newspaper), I’ve been a freelance music writer for the NME (British music newsweekly/bible), and I was a music staffer for Comcast.net during my six month co-op internship. Hell, I even published my own ‘zine, Neat Neat Neat (hopefully you get the reference), throughout most of my teens, although no web presence of said ‘zine still exists. Pity.
Music is what I know, it’s what I love, and it’s what I’ve chosen to blog about, for better or worse. All I can hope is that you’ll enjoy what you read, or perhaps become so enraged you’re forced to duke it out with me in the comments. If you’d like to take matters further, you can always e-mail me as well.
I probably shouldn’t list my own personal music tastes here, as it would show a bias and/or invite criticism from others, but for a handy chart of my more embarrassing tastes, there’s always my Last.fm page.
